Know Why Your AC Fan Is Not Working

One most common problem with an air conditioner is a broken or malfunctioning fan. You can always hear the compressor running, feel cool air being produced inside the machine, also see all the parts of the machine working in unison. However, the air conditioner fan simply does not work. With such a problem, there is no way to get any cool air inside.

In this post, we will walk you through a complete troubleshooting guide for helping you to figure out why your AC fan fails to work or spin. If you discuss with any aircon service Singapore they will follow these to fix the problem.

1.   Dual shaft fan motor

Check your dual shaft fan motor for any kind of problems or defects by following these steps:

  • Check the 2 blades on each side of your motor where one fan blade draws in outside air and the other works by directing the entire air over its evaporator coil.
  • Check if any bearings are defective.
  • Check if the shaft of the motor is loose or not turning at all.
  • Replace it if necessary.

2.   Main control board

These boards power to different components and one of these may also be responsible for your fan motor. However, before you replace any board, ensure that you have checked all other reasons for the fan not working e.g., broken fan motor capacitors, fan motor itself.

3.   Temperature control thermostat

The fan motor must run all the time when the compressor is on. In case the fan is not running then check the capacitor of your fan motor. You can also use a multimeter to check the temperature control thermostat is showing continuity. If it does not then replace it.

4.   Blower motor

Check whether any unusual activity is found within the fan blades. In case they do not spin freely, then they need to be replaced. Also, check that your blower motor is getting the power. If there is power, but still not running then it needs replacement.

5.   Capacitor

Using a multimeter to test for continuity, look for a broken capacitor. If there is no continuity in the part, it is time for replacing it.

6.   Rotary switch

The rotary switch is in charge of turning on the fan motor. The electrical contacts inside it may become pitted and compressed over time. This frequently results in an inability to conduct electricity. Test a rotary switch with a multimeter to see if it needs to be replaced. If it does not show any continuity, you can replace it.

7.   Selector switch

Making selections on the control board of the air conditioner can reveal a broken selector switch. If the fan starts intermittently after pressing the button, the switch needs to be replaced. However, you notice any smoke coming from outside the switch, it is a clear indication that you must replace it as soon as possible.

If your air conditioner breaks down, you may not like to waste time attempting to diagnose and repair it yourself. You must return your home to a comfortable state immediately for the sake of the health of your family. Rather discuss with your Pinterest friends and try to find a competent technician to fix it.
